The Titanic was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyards in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Several more expeditions followed the Nautile mission in the 1990s. One used two new Russian submersibles, Mir I and Mir II, to explore the wreck and film it for IMAX movie theaters. Ralph White, a National Geographic photographer who had been one of the filmmakers on the Knorr in 1985, took part in the filming of the IMAX movie, called Titanica. He had also taken part in the 1987 salvaging expedition. Along with Emory Kristof, White helped create most of the new technology used for underwater camera work on the missions to explore the Titanic.
